First offered as a pilot program at the University of Tennessee in Memphis and in Gainesville, FL, The Healing Touch program is now taught or practiced in 34 countries including Australia, Japan, India, and Nepal. It is nationally accredited with the American Nurses Credentialing Center Commission on Accreditation, and is endorsed by the American Holistic Nurses Association. Healing Touch Program offers continuing education contact hours in the field of nursing and massage therapy.
Scientific research has concluded that human beings have an electro-magnetic field that interpenetrates the physical body and extends beyond the skin. The most commonly known areas are the energy field (aura) and the energy centers (chakras). Healing Touch Practitioners work with these to support and facilitate physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual healing in their clients on an energetic level.
Healing Touch falls under the category of Energy Medicine, a rapidly expanding field in health care which uses the energy of touch, love, and spiritual connection with others as well as electro-magnetic energy exchange to support the self-healing process. Healing Touch is considered a hands-on method, which includes the use of the hands either on or off the body in a heart-centered way, along with tools such as pendulums and intuition.
Healing occurs through various techniques, but it is important to note that both the practitioner and the client are equally important in the healing process. This is a partnership, and it is never only the practitioner providing healing. The practitioner’s role is to provide the sacred space for healing by being centered, focused and acting as a conduit for energy to flow to the client. Never is a practitioner’s personal energy used; it always flows from the infinite Universal Energy. In fact, a practitioner also receives this healing energy. The client’s role is to be receptive to the healing. All that’s required is the desire to heal. The client takes in the energy, and both practitioner and client trust that it goes where it is most needed.
The practitioner provides a safe, clean, and warm physical space and a sacred energetic space. Gentle music and soft lighting may accompany relaxing aromas. Drinking water should always be available. Practitioners follow a series of procedures prior to, during, and after treatment and document each one on Healing Touch Program forms.
The Healing Touch program offers healing using an effective combination of cutting edge science and compassion.
